User identification based on UTM parameters

The user identification feature based on UTM parameters allows Mailocator to recognize visitors who came from an email campaign and treat them differently than regular anonymous visitors.

What it’s for

The main goal is to identify users who are already subscribed or registered in the database and not show them subscription campaigns that no longer make sense for them.

At the same time, this feature opens up opportunities for more precise targeting of future campaigns.
For example, such users can be shown:

preference centers

offers for registered users

special content for existing contacts

campaigns following up on previous communication

If a user is identified by a unique ID, Mailocator can send that visitor an email (transactional message) directly from the integrated tool, for example:

exit-intent email

abandoned cart

repeat visit to a single page

repeat visit to a group of pages

reminder of an unfinished action

follow-up after visiting an important landing page

response to interest in a specific product or category

reminder of an offer after repeated viewing

If the user comes from a newsletter

Starting with version 5.8, Mailocator automatically classifies a visitor from a newsletter as already subscribed if the URL contains a standard email visit identifier, typically utm_medium=email.

In this case, Mailocator will never display a subscription campaign to the user, as it assumes the user is an existing contact.

This helps reduce unnecessary repeated subscription prompts and better target content to existing contacts.

If the user is also identified by a unique ID

If the URL contains a specific user identifier and Mailocator can link it to an existing contact, the options for working with such a visitor are further expanded.

In this case, Mailocator can:

accurately recognize a specific user

launch targeted campaigns intended only for known contacts

launch any email campaign directly to this user from the integrated tool

Recommendations

For best results, we recommend always using utm_medium=email in email campaigns and including a unique user identifier in links as well, if the platform allows it or does not include it in the default settings.
